Nurse goes many places to use caregiving skills |

Carmen Menting’s career as a nurse has taken her many places. From the plains of Nebraska, where she grew up, to the U.S. Navy ship “Comfort” to Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Louisiana, she has been able to use her skills as a caregiver. “No matter how small it might be, I enjoy caregiving,” she said. “I like knowing I can help somebody.” Menting has worked in The Medical Center’s emergency room as a staff nurse for about four years, mostly with patients who require minor medical care. “They’re doctor’s-office-type visits,” she said. “Occasionally I work on the rest of the floor and do anything that needs to be done.” Menting knew she wanted to be a nurse ever since she was a little girl; her father was her inspiration. “I lived on a farm and saw my dad do different things with the livestock,” she said. Her dad also inspired her to pursue a career in the military. She joined the U.S. Air Force as a medic in 1982. “Dad had been in the Navy and talked about what a great life it was,” she said. “I wanted to follow in his footsteps and joined the Air Force instead.” Read The Full Article At
