ara Henshaw has knee problems right now, but she’s still training to put her best foot forward for next weekend’s Total Fitness Connection Mini Marathon 5K Run & Walk for Children. “This is my third year running. The first year I ran the Mini Marathon with a group,” said Henshaw, who has been running for 16 years. “This year I’m doing the Pump & Run. I lift every day. I’m doing 70 pounds in my regular workout. I’m also doing other things like biking and swimming.” In the Pump & Run, men bench press their total body weight, while women pump at least half of their body weight. For every repetition done, one minute is deducted from their 5K time on race day. “I came in third in the Pump & Run and won the women’s 5K last year,” Henshaw said. The mission for the Run & Walk for Children is twofold - to help prevent child abuse by providing education, social support, crisis intervention and a safe environment for children and their families, and to encourage overall family health.
